Brokers rush to cash in on Kidero, Shebesh brawl

Money hungry brokers have stepped in to try and reconcile Rachel Shebesh and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

They made their move after Ms Shebesh — the county’s women’s rep —ruled out agreeing with Dr Kidero to withdraw the court cases they face.

Although Ms Shebesh’s lawyer Cecil Miller maintains the two will square off in court, reports are rife of cash figures allegedly being floated by intermediaries keen to make money from any deal that keeps the two out of an embarrassing court case.

A figure of Sh20 million was allegedly suggested by one of the brokers.

The argument the dealers are advancing is it would be cheaper for either the governor or Ms Shebesh to spend “some little money to extinguish this fire rather than spend so much in a by-election campaign that they will not be sure to win should they lose their seats due to the cases.”

And to give credence to the fact that intermediaries are interested, Mr Evans Ondieki, a lawyer hired by Mr Alex Ochako who went to court to try to stop the assault case against Kidero, said they wanted the two to meet face to face.

“We are preparing ground for the two to meet directly as opposed to going through brokers who might complicate the process,” Mr Ondieki said.

Last year, County Assembly Majority Leader Elias Otieno accused a section of TNA county representatives of attempting to extort money from the governor so they could drop an impeachment motion against him.

“Some of them have been calling the governor and demanding money from him,” Otieno said.
