Bunge la Mwananchi: Men are ‘abandoning’ their homes over high cost of living
Bunge la Mwananchi, a prominent social justice movement, now claims that men are fleeing their homes to escape the burdens of responsibilities intensified by the soaring cost of living.
The Chairman of the grassroots movement, Francis Awino while unveiling his cabinet at Jivanjee Gardens, said that, “Hata wanaume wanatoroka makwao (even men are running away from home) because of the high cost of living. We implore the government to address this pressing issue promptly.”
He now calls upon the government to act swiftly to solve the issue of the high cost of living.
Awino’s words resonated with the struggles faced by many in the country, as the prices of various commodities including maize flour, sugar, cooking oil among other basic commodities remain high.
Expressing the gravity of the situation, Awino warned that failure on the part of the Kenya Kwanza government to tackle the rising cost of living would compel Bunge la Mwananchi to take decisive action.
“We are giving the government one week to address the issue,’ Awino declared.
On a more defiant note, Awino hinted at the possibility of mobilizing members for a mass protest or resorting to legal avenues if the government remains unresponsive.
On the other hand, Robert Kiberenge, head of the Bunge la Mwananchi election committee, criticized the Kenya Kwanza government’s inconsistent stance towards the judiciary.
“If the judiciary supports his (President William Ruto) projects, he praises the body; if it goes against his plans, he is attacking it. This is very wrong,” Kiberenge stated.
However, this is not the first time the grass root movement is addressing or threatening the government with a protest.
Under the leadership of Calvince Okoth, aka Gaucho, the movement issued several protest alerts to the Kenya Kwanza government over the high cost of living.
Gaucho was in the frontline during the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya anti-government protest which was aimed at lowering the cost of living.
