Burma market closes for renovation

Repairs at the Burma market continued for the second day on Tuesday as retailers spruced up their stalls.

The repair works are sponsored by individual stall operators who saw the need to improve their work stations.

The face lift includes repainting of walls, cementing of worn out floors and fixing broken sewer lines.

The market is located along Jogoo road and is the supply point for butcheries across Eastlands.

During the renovation, meat suppliers transacted business from their supply trucks outside the gate of the market.

Burma market assistant head of security Peter Odero says no meat is allowed in the market until the repair works are over.

“The idea is to minimize human traffic that could potentially frustrate the renovation activities taking place at the market,” he said.

The market has 370 stalls, majority of which stock and sell meat in wholesale to local butcheries.
