Businessman dies in grisly road accident, eight others injured
A well-known businessman died on Sunday night after his car was involved in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Mr Patrick Nziuki Mutinda, 32, famously known as Ithea Mavatha, and his driver Mr Shadrack Chege, 40, died on the spot in an accident that left eight others nursing serious injuries.
According to a police report seen by Nairobi News, the accident took place at Kenani area along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway and the matter was filed at Mtito Andei Police Station, Kibwezi Sub-County in Makueni County.

“It happened that a motor vehicle of registration number KDG 911L, a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin, which was being driven by Rodgers Muia, 40, was heading to Mombasa from the Nairobi direction and he overtook carelessly and collided head on with a motor vehicle of registration number KBU 727H a Mahindra scorpion,” the statement read in part.
The police further said that two of those in the Mahindra Scorpion died on the spot while others escaped with injuries.
The two bodies of those who lost their lives were taken to Kambu Subcounty Hospital Mortuary awaiting an autopsy while the injured were rushed to Makindu Level Four Hospital where they were admitted. The two vehicles were towed to Mtito Andei Police Station.

Mr Mutinda was famous among the Kamba community and he has been featured in several Kamba songs.
Gospel musician Ms Fortune Mwikali Princess, mourned as a man who was always willing to help.
“When I remember one time when he came to support my event at a time I didn’t even know him. I cant believe that you are no more. Rest in Peace Brother, my condolences to the family,” she said.
