Calls for justice as Baby Pendo is laid to rest

The burial of six month-old baby Samantha Pendo, the poster girl of post-election riots in Kisumu, took place in Konjra village, Siaya County, on Saturday.

Family members renewed calls for justice at the funeral.

Baby Pendo’s aunt Triza Uduny condemned the killing of the child.

“It is unfortunate that the government through the acting cabinet Secretary of Interior Dr Fred Matiang’i denies no one was killed in the post-election skirmishes. Baby Pendo is an example,” Mrs Uduny said.

“If I had money I would sue the government for committing such a heinous act. It is shocking that the government would use the police to injure our daughter and later turn around and deny that the police killed anyone,” she added.

Samantha Pendo died  in Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu after suffering severe injuries in the head. A post-mortem showed that she had a fractured scalp that led to her death.Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o during a requiem mass for baby Samantha Pendo held at St Joseph Catholic Church on August 25, 2017.
