Celebrities who have shared photos eating ants, grasshoppers, spider, bat and monkeys

While we are used to the glitz and glamour of celebrities who turn heads not just for their impeccable style, their appetite for the extraordinary has started to show.

From buzz-worthy delicacy, they have sunk their teeth into the unlikeliest of treats; insects and reptiles.

Here are some of the Kenyan celebrities who have shared eating these out-of-the-ordinary animals.

Lupita Nyong’o

Last year, the Kenyan Hollywood star elicited mixed reactions after she proudly displayed a delicacy that looked like a fruit with ants sprinkled on top.

“I ate ants, it tastes really good and it’s not crunchy or anything,” she said. “You can call me Ant-Woman!! #Marvel #Ants #Foodie,” she then captioned in the video.

She apparently enjoyed the amazing appetizer that was served in Los Angeles at the launch of three nights of dinners at the world-famous restaurant Noma in collaboration with the non-profit organization MAD and the car company Audi.

This year, the Oscar award-winning actress shared a video of her eating grasshoppers. “I’m eating some Mexican chapulines, also known as grasshoppers. There it is! Oh my God, it’s gonna be crunchy…it is gonna be very crunchy. Yeah, that tastes about right,” she said in the video.

Content creator Aq9ine

The Kenyan TikToker popularly known for cooking and eating weird food, last year shared how he cooked and ate a bat. While it is still not known whether he was acting or not, Aq9ine also shared a video of his swollen face after he allegedly ate a spider.

Born Steve Alvin Muthomi, Aq9ine was among the content creators who engaged in bizarre acts to grow social media likes and views.

In a previous interview with Nation, Muthomi who hails from Meru, shared that he started his journey as a content creator when he was in Form Two, seven years ago.

In the beginning, he was just fascinated by being a YouTuber. He began with comedy but it did not quite grow. Then he thought about exploring his hobby, cooking.

“But it wasn’t normal cooking. More of it is kitchen comedy; trying out extraordinary recipes,” he said.

Dennis Humphrey

The ‘Sultana’ thespian while in an interview with Pulse revealed that he does eat monkeys.

Humphrey who acts as ‘Kaka’ and plays the role of a gardener who works for Mejja just like his father Mwanzele and his grandfather Mzee Maneno, shared that he eats the mammal.

While it may seem bizarre to many, the practice is actually common in some parts of Kenya.
