President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, has sparked a fashion discussion by donning a maxi dress during her recent visit to Qatar for the Doha Forum Youth Edition.
The outspoken first daughter shared a series of images capturing the event, but her choice of attire drew attention and mixed reactions from Kenyans.
Known for her simplicity and humility, Charlene faced comments from both critics and supporters:
@shaazmemo: “Whoever dresses @charlruto needs to be fired… I can do better with my Home science skills.” @epicstevens: “I see nothing wrong with the outfit. Also, it’s kinda classy.”
@jackndunya: “You are jealous of our down-to-earth 1st daughter of the country. She is decent.”
@jeanbrendah: “She was clearly raised well enough to dress in whatever makes her comfortable and not what you’d deem classy.”
The president’s daughter participated in the Youth Edition of the Doha Forum in Qatar, where she had the opportunity to engage with inspiring speakers.
The focus of the forum was on cybersecurity, and Charlene actively addressed her commitment to combating cyberbullying.
Sharing her personal experiences, Charlene opened up about the challenges she faced with online bullying and highlighted how this adversity fueled her dedication to putting an end to cyberbullying.
“The cyberbullying experience I went through about a year ago created a desire in me to ensure no other young person has to go through what I went through…that’s why I am at the Doha Forum Youth Edition engaging with other young leaders and experts on cybersecurity, AI, and data privacy. I turned my challenge into an opportunity.”
This is not the first time she is trending over her dresscode.
A few months ago, Charlene wore a pair of rugged jeans and a colorful top during a church service in Morocco.
Kenyans expressed their concerns stating that it was very inappropriate for her to match out in such a dress code, especially when attending a church service.
Charlene revealed that she had visited the country for official engagements.
Despite having a questionable dress code, Charlene has also been spotted severally being very fashionable.
In January, 2023, President Ruto asked Kenyans to giver her daughter a break.
Ruto that his daughter was just being herself while running her affairs.
“Leave my daughter Charlene alone ( he said while laughing). These are kids… They are just being children. You know very well that there is no such office,” he said.
“This is just a girl being herself. She is okay… She is just being the daughter of William Ruto,” he added
Charlene had caused an online uproar in December, 2022, after saying she was running a fully staffed Office of the First Daughter.
In an undated video clip, Charlene is heard referring to her office as the Office of the First Daughter while introducing members of her team at a function.
“And this is Jermain Momanyi, he is the head of Trade and Investment at the Office of the First Daughter,” Charlene said to which the crowd responded with cheers, giggles and claps.
