‘Cheating is expensive,’ Iyanya on why he sticks to one woman
Nigerian singer Iyanya, famous for his hit song “Kukere,” recently shared his views on relationships during an episode of DoyinSola David’s podcast, “Doyin’s Corner.”
In the podcast, Iyanya expressed his commitment to monogamy, stating that managing multiple relationships is financially burdensome. He highlighted that maintaining one relationship is already a significant investment of time, effort, and resources, let alone handling several partners.
Emphasizing his packed schedule and priorities, Iyanya firmly asserted, “I have priorities. I am too busy. Cheating is expensive.”
During the conversation, DoyinSola David chimed in, agreeing with Iyanya’s perspective, noting that maintaining one woman is already a financial commitment, not to mention handling multiple partners.
In addition, DoyinSola David shared her stance, revealing that she wouldn’t accept a mere N10,000 from a man and preferred to receive gifts in dollars from her partner.
Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his stage name Iyanya, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa, and is best known for his hit single “Kukere”.
In June 2023, exactly eight years after their much-publicized breakup, Yvonne Nelson, Iyanya’s ex-lover revealed why her relationship with the singer ended in the controversial book she released dubbed, “I am not Yvonne Nelson.”
The ex-lovers started dating in 2012, and their love was in the public eye, especially with events and shows they attended. However, the love story came to an end in 2015.
In the tenth chapter of her book, titled ‘Iyanya and My Love Life’, the 37-year-old actress narrated how she discovered that Iyanya cheated on her with a fellow popular Nigerian actress.
She wrote, “The caller said anytime I left Iyanya’s place, another actress came over to him and sometimes slept over. The person felt strongly that something was happening between them and thought I should know.
“That actress turned out to be Tonto Dikeh of Nigeria and one of the female celebrities Iyanya named in his “Ur Waist” song. When I was convinced about the authenticity of the information I received, I was heartbroken.”
However, she noted that she would have still left the singer, due to other findings that came up, as well. According to her, she didn’t see any reason to keep fighting for a man she had lost.
The actress, who has featured in over 100 movies, said she was wrong to have thought the singer’s gesture to give her shoutout in his songs and tattooing her initials meant they would last forever.
