Chebukati gazettes Uhuru, Ruto after win


IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has gazette President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto as winners of last Tuesday election.

In a special Kenya Gazette, Mr Chebukati said: “IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Articles 88 (4), 136, 138 (4) and (10), 148 (3) of the Constitution of Kenya, section 4 of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, 2011, section 39 (1), (1C) and (1D) of the Elections Act, 2011, Regulation 87 (3) and (8) of the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012, the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declares that: (a) in respect of Article 136 (1) of the Constitution— UHURU KENYATTA (b) and in respect of 148 (3) of the Constitution— WILLIAM SAMOEI RUTO, have been duly elected as President and Deputy President, respectively, of the Republic of Kenya, having complied with the provisions of Article 138 (4) of the Constitution.”

Mr Kenyatta garnered 8,203,290 votes, representing 54.27 per cent of the votes cast.

The ODM and Nasa candidate, Raila Odinga, came in second with 6,762,224 votes, representing 44.74 per cent of the votes cast.

In total, 15,073,662 people cast their votes, representing 78.91 per cent of the registered voters.
Nasa has disputed the results.
