Chief escapes public fury over rape suspect release


A chief in Uasin Gishu County escaped the wrath of residents who stormed his office to protest the release of a man suspected to have defiled his six year old daughter.

Hundreds of irked residents stormed into Ziwa location chief’s office and whisked away the administrator for whose removal they demanded.

Residents say Chief Augustine Kiprono arrested the suspected on Wednesday evening after it was reported that he had been secretly defiling her daughter only to set him free later on under unclear circumstances.

However, the chief said the suspect had not been released bu had fled.

The man is reported to have been defiling his daughter for the past four months after domestic differences led to his separation with his wife.

The minor reported the matter to a friend of her mother who then notified village elders and the area chief about the matter.

The suspected was immediately arrested but later disappeared under unclear circumstances but was later arrested again by members of the public in Matunda area and handed over to the police.
