Ciara’s prayer? Here’s a great template to pray for a good spouse
They kept asking for American singer Ciara’s prayer on how she landed NFL player Russel Wilson as a husband after all the drama she went through with American rapper Future with whom they share a son. Russel changed Ciara’s life when he ‘wifed’ her. Her lifestyle, her dressing and some of her music changed. She became classier and well-liked by her fans and detractors after she toned down the trashy dressing and club hopping days.
Many people, to date- years after Ciara’s marriage- still asked what prayer she made, which side of the bed she knelt on as she prayed, which side she faced and which language she used. While Nairobi News might not know what exactly she said in her prayer but we might have an idea of what a good prayer for a spouse might look like for those who long to settle down in marriage. Shall we try it out?
“Lord (or the higher power you pray to), I live in a world where so much immorality exists. I am surrounded by it, I have participated in it (or haven’t yet and don’t want to) and it has taken over my life. I have ‘met’ with a lot of people and I feel dirty, I feel poisoned by the lifestyle I have led, and I want to make a change. I deserve better, you say I deserve better and have better in store for me. I am ready for better.
Your word in 1 Corinthians 7 says that because there is so much immorality in the world, every man should have his own wife and every woman should have her own husband. You also command that a husband and wife must fulfill and satisfy each others’ needs. I no longer want my needs satisfied by anyone and everyone. I want a spouse for myself.
I want a spouse meant for me. I no longer want to be a candidate for Satan’s temptations and lack of self control. I don’t want to spend my days alone, battling desires and uncontrollable passion that will lead me into sin. Bless me with a spouse who will not leave me, and if they must, may our reconciliation be as quick as lightning. Bless me with a spouse who does not believe in separation and divorce.
Bless me with a spouse who is acceptable to You. A spouse we can live in peace with. A spouse who will weep with me and will rejoice with me. A spouse who will laugh with me and we can enjoy freedom from worry together. A spouse who will dedicate their body and spirit to You first, then to me.
I pray for a spouse who possesses the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Unwavering faithfulness, self control, love, peace, gentleness especially in the face of disagreements. Kindness, patience, joy and goodness as well. I pray you cultivate these fruits in the spouse you have in store for me. Cultivate them in me too, may I be someone’s answered prayer too.
I pray for a beautiful marriage, a marriage that we will be on the same page about life’s desires and issues. A marriage that will withstand the test of time and be the testimony of Your glory among men. May we be fruitful. In Jesus’ (or the higher power you pray to) name, Amen (amin).”
