City artistes blocked from performing at the coast

Several Nairobi artistes and event organisers made huge losses after their scheduled concerts were allegedly cancelled in Mombasa.

Among those scheduled to perform at the New Year’s Eve party in Mombasa include hit rapper DNA of the Maswali Ya Polisi fame.

According to his manager and Grandpa Record’s boss Refigah, they arrived in Mombasa a day before the show only to be told that it had been cancelled.

“We were told that the organisers did not manage to get permits for our performances, so we headed back to Nairobi.”

It was not clear what sort of permits they required, added Refigah.

Some beach parties organised by Nairobi-based event organisers failed to take place too.

Last November, a group of Mombasa-based artistes issued a press statement saying they would do their best to block artistes from Nairobi and Tanzania from performing in Mombasa during the festive season.

They cited discrimination of Mombasa-based artistes by event organisers as the main reason why they intended to block Nairobi and Tanzanian artistes from performing in their own backyards.
