City family files complaint against medic who ‘neglected’ dying patient

The family of the late Bernard Odhiambo on Tuesday filed a formal complaint with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.

This is after they accused medics at the Mbagathi District Hospital of negligence, leading to the death of their kin who they say was in a critical state having been referred from another hospital.

Evans Oluoch, who broke the internet with his detailed account of how his late cousin died at Mbagathi District Hospital, told Nairobi News that he had on Tuesday submitted to the board a report narrating the circumstance of the death.

He would also be submitting a complaints form to the board on Thursday.

PURSUE JUSTICE

“We have been given a hearing date by the board of September 16 and we will avail ourselves to pursue justice for my late cousin,” Mr Oluoch told Nairobi News.

After Nairobi News published the story on Monday, KTN also ran the story on Tuesday night where the board’s chairman Daniel Yumbya confirmed that they had received the complaint from the deceased’s family.

The report will be tabled before a preliminary inquiry committee that investigates complaints of medical negligence.

FACEBOOK ACCOUNT HACKED

This even as Mr Oluoch’s Facebook account that was used to highlight the family’s eight-hour ordeal at the hospital was hacked for four hours on Tuesday morning.

In an interview on Wednesday, he narrated how he updated his status at 8:05am on Tuesday and on logging back 25 minutes later his account was unavailable.

The account became available after four hours of trying to regain control through his email address.

Mr Oluoch says that he has not been threatened as many have claimed on social media.

He however told Nairobi News that on Monday, while at the Kenyatta National Hospital police station, a brother of the female doctor’s fiancé came to the station and pleaded with him to delete the published photo but he refused to delete as he says it will be part of his submission to the medical board.
