City lawyer praised for taking on Kenya Power on ‘inflated bills’
Kenyans online are celebrating city lawyer Apollo Mboya ahead of the hearing of his class action suit against Kenya Power Company.
Mboya’s case sas filed in January and is scheduled for hearing on Monday.
The lawyer has already bagged quick wins in the case, including court orders barring the power firm from sending inflated power bills to consumers.
Kenya Power announced over the weekend that it will terminate the contracts with third party token vendors Dynamo and Vendit in three months.
Kenyans online are in solidarity with lawyer Mboya ahead of the Monday hearing and have been urging him not to be cowed.
This is after Sunday Nation reported that lawyers for the power firm have been trying to reach out to Mboya along with Electricity Consumers Society of Kenya (ECSK) to agree to delay the submissions to a later date.
The lawyer confirmed that the hearing was on and Kenyans could not hide their excitement as they urged him to fight on.
Our leaders need to make KPLC answer why they are extorting Kenyans.Cost of energy should be way cheaper to boost growth of our economy…
I once again salute senior counsel Apollo Mboya for great work he has done by exposing rot in the parastatal. https://t.co/p2mmUKB6rM— Anyona (@Anyona9) May 6, 2018

@MboyaApollo I have to thank you in person for standing up against consumer exploitation by the Kenya Power. In the early days of your duel with the company, I pointed this style of activism as the best type which civil society organizations and opposition parties should emulate
