City man commits suicide over Sh30

Police in Limuru, Kiambu County are investigating an incident where a man committed suicide over Sh30.

On the night of Wednesday, November 23, 2022, Mr Francis Irungu, 27, arrived home while appearing to be drunk.

Mr Irungu was in the company of two ladies who alighted from a motorbike and assisted in carrying him to his house within his parent’s compound.

“In the process, his mother removed Sh30 from his pocket. Later he started complaining that his brother’s wife stole his Sh300 which his mother refuted,” a police report made by Mr. James Mwaura Ngugi, the Makutano area chief, and filed at Ndiya police post read in part.

In the process, Mr Irungu threatened to commit suicide if the money was not returned to him. Later, he went to his house and committed suicide.

The scene was processed and the body was removed to Tigoni Level Five Hospital, awaiting an autopsy.

Currently, sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are investigating the matter in order to ascertain whether the information they were given was factual.

In yet another suicide incident, a woman committed suicide inside her rented apartment known as Native Apartments, located in Kihunguro, Ruiru, in Kiambu County.

Ms Joyce Jeruto Kumberell, 24, committed suicide by hanging herself inside the house and this was noticed by her neighbors, who alerted the caretaker known as Mr James Nthiga Mugo.

“Mr Mugo reported that there was a rope that was hanging in one of the balconies at the apartment. Police officers visited the scene and broke the door leading to the house located on the third floor of the building,” the report read in part.

The officers found the body hanging at the balcony. They processed the scene and removed the body to the General Kago mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The deceased did not leave behind any suicide note.
