City resident wants Babu Owino removed from office for fight with Jaguar

By HILARY KIMUYU December 15th, 2017 1 min read

An Embakasi East constituent has petitioned parliament to investigate Babu Owino for his ugly fistfight with Starehe MP Charles Njagua (Jaguar) in parliament.

Bernard Abuya Momanyi wants the Powers and Privileges Committee, chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi, to investigate Babu’s conduct and find him in contravention of House rules.

Mr Momanyi, in his petition, wants the committee to recommend that Babu contravened Article 75 (1) (c) of the constitution and should therefore be removed from office.

The resident contends that Rule 7 of the code of conduct for MPs provides that an MP shall uphold the dignity and integrity of the House by promoting respect for the House and its institutions at all times.

Momanyi also argued that Rule 8 of the same code provides that a member of the House shall treat other members with respect and strive to have cordial relations with his colleagues.

On Thursday, House Speaker Justin Muturi directed the Powers and Privileges Committee to investigate the claim and present a report to the House within 60 days.

Babu fought with Jaguar after he referred to President Uhuru Kenyatta as a ‘caretaker president.’
