Nairobi City Stars midfielder Clifford Otieno is over the moon after earning full minutes for the first time in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

Otieno was instrumental for his struggling side in a league clash versus Posta Rangers at the Thika sub-County stadium.

Besides featuring for the entire game, the youngster also earned impressively for his positive performance in the contest that ended goalless.

“I feel I did well but there’s so much room for improvement,” he pointed out.

“I want to thank my coach (Nicholas Muyoti) for offering me an opportunity to prove myself,”

“I suppose he (the coach) was satisfied with what he saw in that game and I believe he’ll build more confidence in me as time goes by,” said Otieno.

The former Migori Youth captain made his debut in the top-flight when Nairobi City Stars was thrashed 4-1 by Tusker on November 27, 2022.

He was introduced in the 87th minute of the game, taking over from the evergreen Peter Opiyo.

“It was my debut day against Tusker but the big day never went well. We lost. I hate losing. I hope to gather more minutes and playtime as we go along and help my team gain more positive results,”

Again, Otieno, 22 replaced the aging Opiyo this time in the 79th minute in his team’s 2-1 loss to FC Talanta in the consequent match at the Ruaraka grounds.

The youngster will be itching for more minutes on the pitch when City Stars play Nzoia Sugar away at the Sudi Stadium this weekend.

Otieno joined City Stars on a one-year deal on August 26.

He’s been touted as the replacement of Sven Yidah who transferred to South African top side Marumo Gallants.
