Clear your own bills, Govt tells individuals quarantined at private facilities
The government has asked people who were quarantined at PrideInn Lantana hotel to pay their own bills before they are released from the facility.
After the government extended the mandatory quarantine period by 14 days, individuals isolated at the hotel refused to pay for the services.
Those who talked to Nairobi News complained that the extra fortnight had not been budgeted for, and the facility was already too much expense for them.
But government spokesperson Col(Rtd) Cyrus Oguna said persons were given the option to choose between government-owned facilities and private hotels at the start of the mandatory quarantine.
Oguna said the choice was based on one’s preference and ability to pay.
“Going by these facts, choosing to be in a private facility was equivalent to having entered into a private arrangement with the hotels. As such, the individuals in these private hotels, particularly PrideInn Lantana, must pay bills they incurred during their stay in the hotels,” Mr. Oguna said.
However, according to individuals at the facility who spoke to Nairobi News, have refuted Oguna’s assertion, saying they were just picked from the airport and driven to different facilities within Nairobi.
On Saturday, the PrideInn Lantana hotel management withdrew the services of persons in quarantine at the facility over their failure to pay for their extra stay.
On Saturday evening, individuals quarantined at the facility were allowed to go home, but 21 individuals were left behind after they failed to pay the bills.
Come Sunday evening, all the 21 individuals had managed to clear their bills and allowed to go home.
” Everyone got out of Pride Inn Lantana, and those remaining as of yesterday (Saturday) had family and well-wishers pay for them and left today (Sunday) by evening,” a source who sought anonymity to Nairobi News.
