Safaricom CEO Collymore finally reveals what has been ailing him

Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore, who returned to work this week after a nine months absence, has finally disclosed his ailment.

In a candid interview on Citizen TV’s JKL show on Wednesday night, Collymore, who pocketed a hefty salary of Sh196 million for the year ended March 2018, revealed that he had been battling cancer.

Collymore revealed that he had been feeling unwell for a while before visiting his personal doctor who ran some test and referred him to a specialist in the UK.

“I was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors told me at the time that I had probably had it for about 6 months. I went to London and they told me I had acute Myeloid Leukemia – a rare kind of blood cancer that is curable,” Collymore said during the show.

Collymore made his first public appearance in nine months on Monday before parliament’s ICT committee, which is looking into telcos dominance in the Kenyan market.

Mr Collymore later thanked well wishers for their support during his prolonged sick leave.
