By Winnie Mabel November 2nd, 2022 2 min read

Kenyan comedian Captain Otoyo Sibuor, born Kazungu Matano, says the thought of trying his hand at active politics is yet to cross his mind.

Also a renowned radio presenter and master of ceremony, Captain Otoyo has been on the spot since his close friend Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o was elected Lang’ata lawmaker in the August 2022 polls.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Captain Otoyo opened up on the possibility of linking up with Jalango in running the affairs of Lang’ata constituency or even seeking a political seat in the future.

He said: “Politics is a calling, I haven’t been called yet! Let me host their events; advise them on matters of media and entertainment as I wear two hats (I’m trained in both). Politics, no, never.”

Captain Otoyo and Jalango’s friendship dates back to their early twenties.

In a previous conversation during his past radio show, Jalango revealed he and Captain Otoyo lived together when they were young and struggling to make ends meet.

The two struggled to put food on the table and resorted to eating rats to fill their bellies.

“We ate rats together with Otoyo when we were hungry. You know when you have to eat a rat, it means you are desperate and tried everything in vain. A rat is the last food anyone can think of eating,” said Jalango during his show on Milele FM in 2020.

The two would go on to debut on Kenyan television when they landed roles on the long-running Swahili comedy show, Papa Shirandula, and went on to become household names.

Jalango described Otoyo as a brother and are two of Kenya’s most popular and well-off comedians and media personalities.

The two credit their breakthrough in the entertainment industry to their entry to the Papa Shirandula show.
