Container with stolen Range Rovers bound for Kenya nabbed in the UK

Five stolen Land Rover Range Rovers were on Friday recovered from containers destined for export to Kenya.

According to Daily Mail, the vehicles are believed to have been stolen from Surrey, South Woodford and Islington in the United Kingdom.

“Hundreds of vehicle parts – some of which appear to belong to 12 BMWs reported as stolen from east London – were found in containers at the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk.”

BMWs and hundreds of bikes, believed to have been stolen from suburban driveways were also found in other containers bound for Cyprus.

The cars and vehicle parts, including engines, would have been further exported to other countries to be sold, according to officers from Operation Endeavour.

KEYLESS VEHICLE THEFT

The operation was started by police to emphasise on drivers’ need to secure their vehicles to prevent keyless vehicle theft.

Detective Inspector Wayne Cooke, of ACPO Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (AVCIS) said:

“AVCIS has been supporting our Metropolitan Police Service colleagues with our ports intelligence unit staff identifying opportunities for examining and recovering vehicles and vehicle parts stolen through keyless methods.”

Officers at the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk said they started opening the containers on Tuesday and encountered hurdles as the containers were too jammed with vehicle parts and the rest of the goods for quick extraction.
