Cop killed after being hit with a 750ml bottle of alcohol


A police officer was over the weekend killed after he was hit with a 750ml bottle of alcohol.

Police officers have launched a manhunt for the suspect who hit the officer, and dumped his body beside the road in Lanet, Nakuru County before stealing valuable items from him.

In a report seen by Nairobi News and filed at Lanet Police Station, an officer identified as Mr Faine Nyamongo of Githioro Police Station that he was heading home at 4 am after attending a friend’s burial arrangements within Modern Estate in Lanet.

He was stopped by members of the public who informed him that a police officer was lying dead on the road along Lanet Ndundori road within Kamfam area about two kilometres East of the Station.

The officer then rushed to the scene where he found Mr Charles Okello of Lanet Police Station, with a visible serious head injury at the back of the head.

He was bleeding from the mouth, nose and ears.

Mr Nyamongo then informed police officers attached to Lanet Police Station and led by Mr Samson Andanje the Nakuru North Sub-County Police Commander visited the scene.

“The scene was processed and documented by crime personnel in Nakuru County and it was established that the deceased was hit by use of a 750ml bottle of chrome Gin,” the report further read.

Police officers searched for his items inside his pockets but did not manage to find anything.

His body was then taken to PNN mortuary within Nakuru County awaiting an autopsy.

Meanwhile, police in Naivasha, Nakuru County on Monday, August 29, launched a manhunt for a gang of suspected robbers who allegedly attacked a ward commander before making away with his official firearm.

The matter was reported to the police by his wife identified as Ms Herma Jemutai Korir.

“The scene was visited and Mr Alexander Korir, the ward commander Naivasha was found lying at the gate to his residence in a supine position with injuries on the head,” a report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

His motor vehicle of registration number KAN 963D a Volkswagen had the window on the driver’s side smashed.

Police said that his official firearm Jericho pistol serial number 44338853 loaded with 15rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition was missing.

He is currently admitted at Lake View nursing home where he is being treated.
