Copyright boss Kutuny lauds Ruto following appointment

By Mercy Simiyu October 28th, 2023 2 min read

Former Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny has publicly thanked President William Ruto following his appointment as the Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board.

In a statement, Kutuny conveyed his readiness to collaborate with the Head of State and other stakeholders to advance the government’s agenda during his three-year tenure.

“Thanks, Your Excellency President William Ruto for appointing me the Chairperson of Kenya Copyright Board for three years. I will diligently serve with seal and vigor so that together we deliver your government’s agenda as planned. Thank you once more,” he wrote on social media.

Kutuny has twice served as Cherangany lawmaker.

He has also lost on two occasions in a bid to prolong his term as MP to two decades, most recently to DAP-Kenya’s Patrick Simiyu.

In between, he worked at the Office of the President during Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.

In the run up to the 2022 presidential elections, Kutuny championed for Azimio’s Raila Odinga, who finished second behind President Ruto in a tight contest.

But he soon jumped ship and shifted his loyalty to President Ruto.

In his new role as Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board, Kutuny is poised to contribute to the protection and regulation of intellectual property rights in the country.

His appointment reflects the President’s confidence in his abilities and his dedication to fulfilling the government’s objectives during his tenure.

With this new responsibility, Kutuny is expected to navigate the complexities of copyright issues and support the creative and intellectual endeavors of the Kenyan people.

He is the latest politician who lost in the 2022 polls to be rewarded with a political seat.

Others are Nelson Havi who now chairs the Retirements Benefits Authority, Caleb Kositany who was appointed board member of the Kenya Airports Authority and Rashid Echesa who was recently appointed chairperson for the Kenya Water Towers Agency.
