Cotu wants EACC to release findings of Tassia project probe
City Centre.
The Central Organisation of Trade Unions wants the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to make public its findings on the Tassia Infrastructure Development Project scandal.
Cotu chairman Rajabu Mwondi said the organisation would accept the outcome, adding that delay in releasing the findings was a ploy to conceal the truth on what led to the hurried and suspicious approval of the Sh5.053 billion project.
In January, Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi wrote to the EACC to probe NSSF board members over the project that has generated a lot of debate.
Hurried
Mr Mwondi maintained that implementation of the project was hurried even before it was brought before the NSSF Board of Trustees for discussion and approval through a budgetary allocation.
“We are yet to witness any action from the government in spite of all the efforts that we as an organisation have made to avail all the information required to facilitate investigations into the matter,” said the Cotu chairman.
He said the anti-graft agency was silent over the matter and as a key institution with the constitutional mandate to arrest all corruption cases in spite of other institutions such as Parliamentary Investments Committee and the Commission on Administrative Justice having released their reports on the project.
“EACC’s silence continues to cause anxiety and agony among workers and their leaders who are eager to know the individuals behind the fraudulent approval of such a colossal sum of money from the NSSF,” said Mr Mwondi.
He also raised concern that more than five months after it unearthed the scandal, no action had been taken.
He regretted that the matter had since degenerated into intimidation, harassment and witchhunt from top NSSF management to diverting attention on the matter.
