County workers who missed headcount get a lifeline

By NJOROGE KIARIE December 24th, 2013 1 min read

County workers who were struck off the payroll following an October head count will have to wait up to January 14 to know their fate.

The workers have been ordered to appear before the Human Resource Management Advisory Committee with all relevant employment details as well as a hand-written letter explaining the reasons for not being counted.

The employees will also have to be accompanied by their respective section heads for identification and verification of their details.

The county is preparing a new payroll with the workers details verified before they can be migrated from the old one.

City Hall held the workers audit to try and weed out ghost workers who may have persisted in an earlier audit in August.

Governor Evans Kidero said that the August audit had revealed 2,260 ghosts who had been costing the county government Sh100 million every month in salaries.
