Court cancels bail for robbery suspect
The Makadara court has remanded a man who jumped bail while on trial for robbery with violence and later arrested for assaulting a traffic officer.
Senior Principal Magistrate Timothy Okello forfeited Vitalis Nyasio Owino’s cash bail of Sh. 100, 000 thousand and ruled that the accused will remain in custody throughout his trial.
This was after the prosecution demanded he be denied bail since he had absconded court.
Mr Owino, whose warrant of arrest had been issued by another Makadara Court, jumped cash bail after he was charged with robbery with violence.
He was arrested on March 31 together with Morris Ochieng Otieno and John Nyaga Okili for assaulting a traffic police officer who had responded to a road accident in Njiru along Kangundo road.
The three pleaded guilty to the charges of beating up Constable Japheth Iguna who had attempted to arrest them after hitting a stationary car.
The other two suspects, Otieno and Okili, were released on a free bond and will wait until April 24 when their probation report will be presented to the court.
Mr. Kurgat had of Friday presented a blood stained traffic police reflector worn by Constable Iguna on the material day as evidence.
Mr. Iguna was rescued by members of public and Criminal Investigation Department officers who arrived at the scene for reinforcement.
