Court orders KQ pilots to call off strike
A Nairobi court has ordered striking Kenya Airways (KQ) pilots to unconditionally resume work on Wednesday morning.
Additionally, the same court has cautioned the airline’s management from taking any disciplinary actions against the pilots who’ve downed their tools over the past three days.
Through the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (Kapla), the pilots made good their threats to down their tools on Saturday in a row over deferred salaries and pension contributions.
About 65 flights and 10,000 passengers were affected on the first day of the strike.
Kenya Airways Chief Executive Allan Kilavuka said the strike cost the airline Sh300 million on the first day with several flights cancelled.
On Monday, Mr Kilavuka announced the airline was operating at 20 percent capacity and warned that a disciplinary process had been initiated against pilots who have not resumed duties.
Additionally, KQ announced vacancy positions asking Kenyans willing to work for the airline as pilots to apply.
