Daring gang raids police station in Kayole, attempts to steal firearms
The five member gang stormed Mihango Police Station in Kayole on Monday night and attempted to steal firearms.
A member of the gang was shot dead during the 10.30 p.m. incident.
The gang are said to have stormed the station and accosted police officers who were on duty.
“They entered the station armed with a firearm and crude weapons and asked officers on duty to surrender their weapons, but the officers resisted and started fighting back,” Kayole OCPD, Ali Nuno said.
He narrated how Kayole divisional headquarters received a distress call from the Mihango station and two officers who were on duty rushed to the scene and found the five thugs wrestling with their colleagues.
“When the gang discovered that the officers had been backed with armed officers, they tried to escape,” Mr Nuno said. “The officers shot at the five, killing one and wounding another.”
One other suspect, he said, was arrested by police. The wounded suspect, escaped together with the two others on a vehicle.
The slain suspect, according to Mr Nuno, was identified only as ‘Moses”. His body was taken to the city mortuary.
