David Mugonyi appointed new CA Director General, replaces Chilobae
ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Wednesday, December 120, approved the appointment of David Mugonyi as the new Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
Mugonyi is currently the Head of the Presidential Communication Service and takes over the CA Director General position from Ezra Chiloba, who resigned from the position in October this year.
“Reference is made to the above and a letter from the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service (Ref: SH/GM/ 22) dated 19th December, 2023 (enclosed) conveying approval for the appointment of Mr. David Mugonyi as the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya,” reads the statement from CS Owalo.
Chiloba resigned from the position on October 18, marking the end of his two-year tenure at the authority. This followed an investigation that was ongoing over his conduct.
He previously worked as the Head of Communications at the National Assembly after moving from the Nation Media Group as a Senior Editor.
The Director General of the Communications Authority is the Chief Executive Officer and the Accounting Officer of the Authority, managing the day-to-day business, providing overall leadership, and is the spokesperson of the Authority on all operational matters.
The DG is tasked with providing strategic leadership, setting a clear vision for CA, and aligning its operations with the national and sectoral objectives.
In January, President William Ruto removed the role of Deputy Head of the Presidential Communication Service (PCS) from Hussein Mohammed’s job description at the State House and retained Mugonyi’s role as the Presidential Communication Service (PCS) boss.
Mugonyi, a former journalist attached to the Nation Media Group, has worked for President Ruto’s communication team for the past decade at a time he served as the Deputy President based at the Harambee Annex and Karen residence. He is one of the few trusted allies and strategists of the Head of State.
