Davido ‘donates’ Sh68 million to the needy
Nigerian billionaire musician Davido, born David Adedeji Adekele, says he has raised Sh68 million to help the less needy in his country, with 292 orphanages the immediate beneficiaries.
“I am pleased to announce that the disbursement of funds is complete. So far, the total of Sh68,244,750 has been disbursed. Always remember we rise by lifting others,” he said.
The Assurance hit maker announced on his birthday last year that he would donate a total sum of Sh54,595,800 received from his friends and family together with his personal donation of Sh13,648,950 to orphanages across Nigeria.
Additionally, the Fall song bird selected a disbursement committee comprising of five members who helped in determining the number of children and their needs at each orphanage. This would ease smooth division of funds.
“My goal is to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need,” he posted.
However, days before his birthday, the musician asked his fans to send him money if he had given them a hit song a move that was well reciprocated with him getting nearly Sh50,256,680.
Davido however fell short of naming the orphanages and group that have benefitted from this venture.
Son of Adedeji Adeleke, a famous and rich Nogerian businessman, Davido is estaimted to be worth Sh2.5 billion.
