De Jongh bitter with Leopards over sack

Sacked AFC Leopards trainer Pieter de Jongh concedes he is “very bitter” with the manner in which the club relieved him of his duties.

The Dutchman was reportedly fired by his employers during a tempered Special General Meeting (SGM) on Sunday afternoon, barely eight months into his year and a half contract, and with no formal reasons advanced as to why and how the management had arrived at this decision.

The tactician has now claimed he “knew nothing” about the impending sack, after no club official bothered to formally inform him that his services at the den were no longer required.

“They (officials) go and announce my sacking in a meeting and to the press without informing me. I am very bitter,” De Jongh told Nairobi News.

“And then,” the coach posed, “they also waste my time. I spend all festive season here meeting players and planning for the new season, and yet they want to get rid of me all this while”

Meanwhile the club’s Organizing Secretary Timothy Lilumbi says the club had to part ways with De Jongh owing to a couple of challenges.

“Firstly he could not communicate well with the players, and then, he had fallen out with several seniors within the playing squad. This was affecting the morale and by extension the team spirit,” Lilumbi added.
