Dear Kenyans, NHIF has announced a new payment plan
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has announced its compliance with a Presidential directive, shifting all payments for services through government to Pay bill number 222222.
NHIF CEO Elijah Wachira emphasised that the changes are to take effect immediately.
In a statement, Wachira stated, “The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) notifies all members and employers that effective immediately, all NHIF payments through mobile money platforms shall only be made through the government pay bill number 222222.”
The move aligns with the Kenya Gazette number 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of Pay bill Number 222222 as the government’s single payment platform.
To facilitate streamlined transactions, Wachira outlined specific instructions for different payment categories. Those making monthly contributions should use NHIFM-ID NUMBER as their account number.

For penalties, contributors should utilize NHIFP followed by their ID number. Employers contributing on behalf of their members should use NHIFE-E-Slip NUMBER for monthly contributions and NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE for employer penalties.
In August, President William Ruto had issued a directive for government agencies to utilize the official government pay bill number, emphasizing the need for efficiency and data integrity.
He stated, “From today, all government agencies should use the government pay bill manned by the National Treasury. All other pay bills will be shut down.”
President Ruto highlighted the digitisation initiative as a means to enhance efficiency and combat corruption within government agencies.
The recent NHIF directive reflects ongoing efforts to consolidate payment processes, ensuring a centralized and accountable system across various government entities.
