Defender Asike moves to court to terminate Sofapaka contract

Defender Eugene Asike has moved his protracted legal battle with Sofapaka FC to the Industrial Court.

The player is seeking to terminate his contract with the 2009 champions over what he alleges is a continuous breach of contract, Nairobi News can exclusively confirm.

The Kenya international has been at logger heads with his employer for the past month, claiming the club’s management has not honoured its part of the bargain in paying him Sh 300,000 in sign-on fees, alongside other salary arrears that have since accumulated into a number of months.

Despite the fear that the player could be sanctioned by a supreme sporting body for taking football matters to court, the player’s legal team is understood to have explored the clauses in his Kenyan Premier League contract that enjoins the agreement with the Employment and Labour Acts of Kenya.

Asike, who moved to Sofapaka from KCB FC a couple of seasons ago, is said to be in negotiations with a couple of top flight clubs in Kenya with a view to securing a move before the current transfer window closes on January 31.
