Oliech hints at retirement after landing Sh10m deal with Betway
Former Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech has hinted at retiring from active football moments after he was appointed the official ambassador of betting firm Betway.
Speaking of this appointment, which will run on an initial one year deal, Oliech revealed his excitement at the start of “another chapter of his career”.
“Betway is a major brand that I am proud to be associated with. This is also a great opportunity for me to start another chapter of my career.” Oliech said.
Betway Group CEO Richard Akitt described Oliech as a legend.

“Signing a Kenyan legend like Dennis Oliech is another significant coup for Betway and we’re looking forward to working with Dennis over the course of the next 12 months,” he said.
This deal was exclusively revealed by Nairobi News last week. It is reportedly worth between Sh5 million to Sh10 million.
Oliech, who played in the French Ligue 1 and 2 for more than a decade, claimed last week that this deal restricts him from playing competitive football.
He was responding to media reports that he is broke after failing to play active football for about 15 months.
REJECTED OFFERS
Oliech’s brother and local manager Nickson also confirmed in a statement that his brother had rejected “solid” offers from European based clubs in favour of this Betway deal.
In the meantime, Betway’s association with Oliech could represent a shift in strategy after the betting firm was outbid by the monied rival SportPesa in its bid to associate with local popular clubs AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia last month.
