Muchai murder investigation extends to Uganda

The investigation into the murder of Kabete MP George Muchai and his three aides extended to Kampala in Uganda on Sunday while another team of detectives conducted a covert operation in Nairobi’s Huruma estate.

Police focused on the two areas among others after a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) showed that the attackers were driving in a white station wagon Mercedes Benz with a Ugandan registration number, contrary to earlier reports that they were in a Toyota Probox.

The vehicle, according to the footage, sped down along Kenyatta Avenue towards Moi Avenue shortly after the shooting.

However, the actual shooting and the direction taken by the gunmen out of town centre was not clearly captured by the cameras.

OTHER CLUES

The detectives from the Homicide department from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters travelled to Kampala after the details of the original and current owners of the car could not be established.

In Nairobi, officers from the Flying Squad had from Saturday night conducted a covert operation at Asmara area in Huruma after reports indicated that a similar car had been seen in the area few days before the shooting.

Sources with the police said that investigators now have to pursue several other clues and not rely on the footage alone.

Apart from the CCTV footage, they are already focusing on the wrangles with Cotu, his earlier complaint against the DCI, land issues, politics and previous attempt on his life.

The legislator was murdered alongside his driver and two bodyguards in cold blood in Nairobi on Saturday morning.
