Diamond Platnumz unveils inspiration behind hit single ‘Komasava’

Bongo Flava hitmaker, Diamond Platnumz, has revealed the heartfelt story behind his chart-topping sensation Komasava, in an exclusive interview at Portugal’s Afronation Festival.

The song has swiftly transcended borders, captivating audiences worldwide with its infectious energy and cultural richness.

Diamond shared that he wrote Komasava during the sacred 27th day of Ramadan, a period of deep spiritual significance for Muslims.

“I was there with my producer, recording and I was say yoh, it’s time to go for the Tahajjud prayer and the atmosphere of that day, usually as Muslim when you pray,God gives you whatever you ask. So I go to pray and after praying I go back to the studio recording,” Diamond recalled.

Reflecting on the song’s creation, Diamond emphasized his vision of unity and inclusivity

“So when we were recording the song, we were thinking about the song that doesn’t matter where you come from, who you are but  a song that can unite people together, that’s why I put different languages, there is French, Swahili, Latin, Zulu, that’s why the challenge also is about greeting someone,” Diamond shared.

However, the accompanying dance challenge, Diamond noted, emerged as a way to foster joy and friendship in the aftermath of the pandemic, symbolizing a return to community and celebration.

Despite the song’s 4 minutes and 36 seconds duration, Diamond revealed it took nearly twenty minutes to finalize his verses. “Every word, every rhythm had to resonate perfectly,” he expressed.

According to Diamond the choice of the title Komasava, was deliberate, reflecting its catchy rhythm and appeal to the Francophone community.

“Komasava goes with the rhyme, apart from that, I know French Francophone is very big and I know francophone people love me so much because it’s something they don’t have to tell me, because I know,” he shared.

While he continues to learn French, Diamond joked about his basic proficiency, mastering essentials like greetings and expressions of love.

Since its release on May 3, 2024, Komasava has garnered impressive milestones, with 3.1 million views on YouTube, 5.4 million streams on Boomplay, and 1.6 million on Spotify.

This unprecedented global attention suggest that Komasava could serve as a significant milestone in the journey of Bongo Flava music.

Although other Tanzanian songs have succeeded in the music scene, they were largely prominent only in Africa.

Such songs include Single Again by Harmonize, Tetema by Rayvanny featuring Diamond, Aje by Alikiba, Kwangwaru by Harmonize also featuring Diamond, Number one remix, Nana, inama, mdogo mdogo, several others.
