Diaspora meeting still on despite Uhuru’s absence

The Kenyan embassy in Washington DC has announced that a meeting scheduled for Kenyans living in United States which was to be addressed by President Uhuru Kenyatta will still proceed as planned.
A statement by the embassy on Friday evening assured those who had registered for the forum that it will go on and that the President’s message will be delivered.
The meeting will be held in Los Angeles, California on Saturday evening.
“Although President Uhuru Kenyatta will not be attending the LA Diaspora meeting as had been planned, the Kenyan Embassy in Washington informs Kenyans that the event will still take place at the same time, date and venue,” the statement said.
It further noted that Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Amina Mohamed will deliver the President’s message at the forum.
Ms Mohamed was part of the advance party that traveled to the Los Angeles before President Kenyatta’s trip aborted.
The Cabinet Secretary for Information Dr. Fred Matiang’i, and Ambassador Robinson Githae will also address the forum.
A source at the Kenyan Consulate in Los Angeles disclosed that a round-table discussion between the diaspora and leading private sector executives will also feature at the event.
