Divock Origi delighted to join German side Wolfsburg
Divock Origi has said he is “excited” after joining German Bundesliga club Wolfsburg from Liverpool.
The Liverpool forward joined the German side in a temporary move from the English side in the final days of the transfer window, and now says this transfer will hand him the opportunity to feature in one of the “best competitions” in the world.
The 22-year-old Belgian international, whose father, Mike Okoth is Kenyan, made the announcement on his official Instagram page.
“Excited to join Wolfsburg and to get the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world in the Bundlesliga,” he said.
“Thanks to everyone at the club for the support so far and I am looking forward to getting started after the international break. Good luck to Liverpool and all the #LFC fans this season too, I’ll be watching and supporting from afar.”
DEBUT
With Senegalese Saidio Mane a sure starter and the likes of Daniel Sturridge offering back up, Origi, who turned down advances to play for Harambee Stars in 2013, was always going to struggle for game time at Anfield this season.
Liverpool also splashed out some Sh4.7 billion to sign Egyptian forward Mohammed Salah from AS Roma in June.
Wolfsuburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe was also delighted the club captured the forward who had been linked with a move to Tottenham and Newcastle earlier on.
“Over 20 clubs were after Divock, it might very well be a factor that Jurgen Klopp knows Bundlesliga,” he said.
Origi, who has also played in the Belgian and French league, could debut for his new club against Hannover 96 in a league fixture on Saturday.
