‘Doctor’ Mugo wa Wairimu remanded for lack of surety
Quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu will have to stay in remand much longer after his surety was withdrawn on Friday.
Mugo, whose real name is James Mugo Ndichu, is accused of sexually assaulting a sedated patient while posing as a medical doctor after the man who stood for his Sh5 million surety withdrew.
John Ngugi had deposited his title deed to secure the release of the accused but decided to withdraw citing personal issues.
He told the court that he needed his document back to secure and pay for his children’s education.
Nairobi Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo ordered that Mr Ndichu be detained until he finds another surety, while at the same time declining Mugo’s request to be given two weeks to find another surety.
The self-styled doctor had jumped bail and the prosecution applied for his bond to be cancelled.
RAPE CHARGE
He has been charged with raping a sedated woman, who will use the pseudonym “ABC” during the trial.
The prosecutor said that on November 1, 2014 at Prestige Healthcare Clinic in Nairobi, Mr Ndichu raped the woman after giving her four tablets of an unknown drug.
Mr Ndichu denied operating a drug shop not registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
He is also charged with employing two unregistered lab technicians, identified as Christine Mumbua Philip and Jane Muthoni.
Mr Ndichu is accused of presenting himself as a doctor and purporting to practise medicine while not registered and licensed as a physician.
He also charged with being in possession of and using a radiation device without a permit from the Radiation Protection Board.
