DPP approves charges against three Chinese linked to SGR tickets scandals

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has approved charges against three Chinese nationals who have been linked with a multi-million-shilling ticketing fraud which has the Standard Gauge Railways (SGR) train service.

Mr Haji said that the three attempted to compromise investigations at the Mombasa terminus by attempting to bribe detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

BRIBERY CHARGES

The three who allegedly tried to bribe detectives with Sh500,000 are Li Gen, who is in charge of transport, Li Xiaowu incharge of security and Sun Xin a staff member.

“The three Chinese Nationals will be charged with the offence of giving a bribe contrary to section 5 (1) as read with section 18(1), (2) of the Bribery Act No. 47 of 2016,” Haji’s statement reads in part.

The three were arrested on Friday and are expected to be presented in court on Monday.
