DPP approves charges against Pastor Ng’ang’a over crash

Pastor James Ng’ang’a of the Neno Evangelism Ministry will face four charges over a road crash that claimed a woman’s life, Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko said on Tuesday.

Mr Tobiko said Pastor Ng’ang’a would be charged with causing death through dangerous driving, failing to report an accident, conspiracy to defeat justice and giving false information to police.

The pastor has been accused of causing the death of Ms Mercy Njeri on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway in Limuru Constituency, Kiambu County, on July 26.

The woman died after her car, a Nissan March, collided with a Range Rover that has been linked to Pastor Ng’ang’a.

CONSPIRACY

Four other suspects, including two police officers who handled the case at Tigoni Police Station, will face conspiracy-to-defeat-justice charges, Mr Tobiko said.

They are Mr Simon Kuria, Mr James Maina Ng’ang’a and police inspectors Christopher Nzioka and Patrick Baya.

Mr Kuria will face an additional charge of giving false information to police.

The two police officers, Inspector Nzioka and and Inspector Baya, have also been accused of neglecting their official duty by mishandling Pastor Ng’ang’a’s case.

The officers have been accused of a cover-up.
