Police in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma County are holding a middle aged man who attempted to bury his mother alive following a land tussle.

Efforts by Chris Wamalwa, 40, to bury his mother at Siuno village were thwarted by passersby who heard her cries for help from a distance.
They rushed to the scene and found the suspect struggling to bury his mother into a hole previously dug near the home.

The woman, Beatrice Nasaka, narrated how her son had attempted to force her to give him proceeds from the sale of a piece of land she had sold to cater for her needs.

“I am a widow and it was my only property that could save me from poverty. So I sold my plot so that I can use the money for my personal needs. When my son heard of the sale, he rushed to my house to get a share of the money, but when he failed to get it he attempted to bury me,” said the victim.

Mama Nasaka explained that she had bought an acre of land for her son in the neighbouring village to end family squabbles because her son is a  ‘drunkard who would sell anything’ to get money for buying illicit brews.

Area village elder Ronald Umbu said villagers arrested the culprit and took him to Nalondo police camp where he is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
