Detectives in Migori County on Monday arrested a male suspect posing as a woman.

“The person was summoned and, upon interrogation, identified self as Sheila Bichange, a female. Upon a cursory examination, he owned up and produced a National Identification Card with a picture that matched his appearance and showed he is Jared Opiyo Nyatumba, a 21 years old Luo male adult from Homa Bay County,” the Police report read in part.

Following his arrest, police say that residents of Awendo flocked to the station to identify the person they suspect was behind the recent spate of serial killings in the area and who is said sometimes to disguise himself as a female.

“The suspect was shown to them through the report office window, but they insisted that he should be handed over to them for lynching,” the Police report read.

When the crowd got out of hand, they had to be forcibly dispersed by the anti-riots officers who used teargas canisters.

Seven people aged 23 and 33 were arrested as part of a riotous mob.

Police also impounded 17 motorcycles belonging to the riotous.

“The main impersonator has since been whisked away from the station and taken to Migori County CCIO’s offices for further processing,” read part of the report.

No police officer or member of the public was injured during the incident.
