If you ask any millennial or a Gen Z what there alcohol preference is, most definitely they will say gin.

Which perhaps in part explains why last year, high gin consumption among women in Kenya drove East African Breweries’ sales in the year ended June 30, with the firm projecting a strong post-Covid recovery.

This, as the company recorded a 15 per cent revenue growth to Sh86 billion, driven by smart investment behind brands, channel focus and innovations.

Common gin brands in the Kenyan market include Gilbey’s, Beefeater and Gordons, with gin alcoholic percentage averaging 40 per cent.

And to further drive gin consumption upwards, last Saturday EABL, under their innovation brand Gilbeys Mixed Berries, hosted the first edition of the Gilbey’s Mixed Berries Mixed and Matched Pinknic party at Absa Sports Club.

The day to night time event saw a huge turnout of consumers who were entertained by renowned artistes such as Bien, Chris Kaiga, Karun, Brandy, DJ Pierra, DJ Brownskin, DJ Redbone, DJ Linsey, Sir M and Kaneda.

Revelers stuck to the theme with many showing up dressed with shades of pink for an elegant and stylish event.

KBL innovations manager, Shirlyn Ndumbu, said the event’s first edition came at a time when their consumers are looking for memorable experiences and occasions to celebrate with their friends.

“This will be the first of a series of events that we have planned across the country and calendar year. Sticking to its Gilbey’s tagline Open Good Times we will be showcasing music, games and fashion that our gin lovers will enjoy, accompanied with amazing cocktail drinks from our Diageo certified mixologists,” she said.

Gilbeys Mixed berries is one of the recently introduced innovation brands that has seen KBL invest heavily in as it seeks to satisfy their consumers’ taste by offering them a wide variety of brands to choose from.

The flavored gin sits in the bottle with a refreshing pink color and is best enjoyed with poured with tonic, bringing out the refreshing mixed berry fruit. It has a pink chevron logo that distinguishes it from the Gilbeys original pack.
