Duale lauds KOT for shutting down Muhoozi’s controversial tweets

Defence Cabinet Secretary nominee Aden Duale has praised Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) for swiftly responding to controversial comments by Uganda President Yoweri Museveni’s son on the social media platform.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba, President Museveni’s son, who doubles up as a General in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), recently claimed on Twitter it would only take two weeks to topple President William Ruto’s government.

Duale was forced to comment on Muhoozi’s tweets when he appeared before the parliamentary committee that is vetting Cabinet appointments. This followed a question by Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wundayi to the effect that the government treated the threats with little action.

He said the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) did not respond to Muhoozi’s tweets because there was no need to and assured the committee that the army was able and ready to defend Kenya and Kenyans at any given time.

“Let’s treat the tweets of the General with the contempt it deserved,” said Duale.

“We should not bother much. Those who want to know the capability of KDF, I think they showed it on KDF Day last week and will show it during Mashujaa Day (celebrations). In any case, Kenyans on Twitter dealt with the General before even foreign Affairs and KDF were to come in.”

He added: “Our country doesn’t react to tweets. We react to official government positions.

Muhoozi and President Museveni have since apologised for the tweets.

In a related development, Duale said his net worth is about 851 million, including his goats, and more than 200 camels.
