Duale silent as Kenyans demand his list of Al Shabaab backers
Just two days after North Eastern leaders declined to produce a list of Al Shabaab partners from the region, police officers were on Monday attacked at Yumbis is Garissa County.
At least eight policemen were injured after Al Shabaab militants ambushed their vehicles at Yumbis.
Police officers who escaped the Monday night attack said four police vehicles were burnt by the militants.
The police officers were in a convoy of four vehicles heading to Yumbis hours after their colleagues were injured in another attack on Monday afternoon.
Kenyans on Twitter immediately started a hashtag to pressurize Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale to produce the list that he spoke about after the Garissa attack that left 148 people dead.
Duale made the sensational promise last month after the devastating terrorist attack at the Garissa University College, promising to name Kenyan sympathizers and financiers of the Somalia-based terrorist outfit within 30 days.
Duale is a close confidant of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s deputy, William Ruto.
#PLEASE REMIND DUALE
Early on Tuesday morning, Kenyans had started hashtag #PleaseRemindDuale calling upon the leader of the majority in the National Assembly to furnish security chiefs with the list of terror partners.
Kakamega senator @BoniMtetezi tweeted, “#PleaseRemindDuale we must all fight terror as a nation.”
@SimaniSays tweeted, “#PleaseRemindDuale That This Country Is More Important than an Individual. We Still Need That Terrorist List He Mentioned.”
Mr Duale led leaders from the region to a Nairobi hotel four days after the Garissa University attack where they addressed the media and said they would compile and submit details of suspects and sympathizers of the terror group within a week.
@SimelAmos tweeted, “#PleaseRemindDuale the month (sic) he asked for is long overdue we need the list now.”
@MariaMakau tweeted, “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you. #PleaseRemindDuale #Yumbis.”
On Saturday, speaking in Garissa town while issuing Uwezo Fund cheques, Duale said that they do not report to Nkaissery and that the production of the list was voluntary. He said area leaders had given “serious” recommendations to president Kenyatta.
The attack on police officers comes a week after Al Shabaab militants invaded Yumbis Village and preached to locals for hours.
