Eacc detectives visit Joho’s primary school to probe academic papers

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Wednesday visited the primary school where Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho sat for his primary school exams in investigations to verify his academic history.

The Eacc detectives visited Tom Mboya Primary School in the morning with five key queries that they wanted the school’s headteacher Suleiman Babu to answer.

The headteacher was given five hours to dig into Governor Joho’s academic papers and respond by Wednesday afternoon.

AREAS OF INVESTIGATION

The Eacc detectives arrived at the school armed with a letter from the commission’s deputy chief executive Michael Mubei, dated March 28, 2017, that highlighted the key areas of the investigation.

“The commission is informed that Ali Hassan Joho was a pupil at Tom Mboya primary school and sat for primary school examination sometimes on or about the year 1989. To facilitate our investigation, kindly furnish us with certified copies of the following information and documents,” the letter stated.

The commission asked Mr Babu to answer whether Joho was enrolled in the school, enrolment particulars of Joho, if the pupil sat for KCPE in the said school and the grades obtained.

They have also requested for the school completion certificate and any other relevant information.

Mr Babu has confirmed to journalists that the detectives visited the school on Wednesday morning and asked him to compile a report on Governor Joho’s papers.
