East Africa viewers staged a rare show of unity by voting  in numbers to propel Tanzanian Idris Sultan to win this year’s  Big Brother Africa.

Mr Sultan received overwhelming support from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Namibia to win this year’s edition of Africa’s biggest reality show.

The Tanzanian walked away with 300,000 US dollars (Ksh 27 million) winner’s prize.

The 21-year-old photographer was joined by his elder sister, Nashra Sultan, when he was declared winner.

THREE SUCKERS

Idris seemed to enjoy himself during the last week of the show as he was part of a group dubbed ‘The three suckers’ that also comprised of South Africa’s Nhlanhla and Zimbabwe’s JJ.

He also carried the title ‘Mr Lover Man’ for his affairs with several female contestants in the house.

This is the second win by a contestant from the east African country, after Richard Dyle Bezuidenhout won the show’s second season  in 2007.

Contestants from Uganda and Kenya have never won in the reality show, while Rwanda made its debut this year.

The closest Kenya  came to winning was in the seventh season when Musician Prezzo went all the way to the finals and emerged second.

Also in the fifth season, Sheila Kwamboka was in the house till the last day.
