Easter party turns tragic for Kenyan woman in New Zealand

On Thursday, March 31, a family could have been eagerly expecting their daughter who had gone to visit their kin in New Zealand over Easter holidays.

Unfortunately, the family is now raising funds to fly her body home following her sudden death during a farewell party, about 14,000km from Nairobi.

On March 20, Ms Ann Maina traveled to Morrinsville, a provincial town in the Waikato region of New Zealand, to visit her brother Yonah Abongo over the Easter holidays.

Since she was to travel back to Kenya on Thursday, the brother organized a farewell party for her on Good Friday, March 25.

COLLAPSED

During the party, she collapsed and lapsed into unconsciousness. The family rushed her to Auckland Hospital where she was admitted in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The doctors established that she had suffered severe spontaneous brain hemorrhage and she underwent emergency brain surgery. She however died the following day.

The family is now appealing for help to bring her body back to Kenya.

“I’m a Kenyan asking for help to get my sister Anne home who died suddenly of blood vessel rapture in the brain,” the brother posted on the Givealittle site.

The deceased’s family was originally from Seme, Kisumu County but later settled in Kitale. She is expected to be buried in her Cherangany home.
