Eight former governors in the frame for CAS role
Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is amongst eight former county bosses shortlisted for the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) positions by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The list which was released on Monday, February 20, 2023, had a total of 224 candidates who want to occupy the positions.
The other seven include James Ongwae (Kisii), Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia), Samuel Tuna (Narok) and Samuel Ragwa (Tharaka Nithi).
Others are John Mruttu formerly of Taita Taveta, Hussein Dado (Tana River) and Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu).
Appointment of CAS’s was initially halted by the Employment and Labour courts after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) sued PSC saying the position was not constitutional and that the right procedure to introduce it was not followed.
LSK further argued the positions were going to further hit on tax payers.
However, in her ruling, Justice Monicah Mbaru said that hiring candidates to the position was legitimate.
Dr Kidero served as Nairobi governor between 2013 and 2017 before losing to Mr Mike Sonko Mbuvi in the 2017 polls.
He contested for the Homabay County governorship seat as an independent but lost to Ms Gladys Wanga in August 2022 polls.
Dr Kidero moved to court to challenge the decision and awaits the court ruling on the matter.
